  Discover, talk about, and share things around your hood, with easily searchable, simple 9-digit text hash.

Simple.   h2hash (previously known as hood2hash) uses a novel method for mapping the surface of a planet, providing a geocode system with shorter and simpler text hashes compared to various existing geocode systems.

⊞_Hood.   A hood is the smallest unit of the virtual grid on the Earth's surface, measuring about 3 meters (10 feet) by 3 meters.

#_Hash.   Each hood can be hashed to a 9-digit, base-34 code ("hash").  A total of 34 characters, including 26 letters and 8 numbers (2–9), can be used in each digit of a hash.  h2hash uses more than 90% of all possible codes that can be generated from 9-digit, base-34 texts, making it the most efficient geocode system out there.

Searchable.   To distinguish it from other common hashtags, a hash can be prefixed with the identifier '#_'. Unlike latitude and longitude pairs, which are often perceived as meaningless by search engines, or excessively long addresses, the hash is a concise and searchable string that significantly improves the searchability of location information.

#_Hash with Context.   Adjacent hoods have similar hashes, and users can determine if two different hoods are located on the same latitude or longitude just by looking at the hashes.

Movable #_Hash.   h2hash will introduce movable hashes to enable tracking of movable entities in future updates.  A movable hash includes one or more underscores, which distinguishes it from a hash for a hood.

Customizable.   h2hash allows quick adjustments to suit specific needs for limiting geographic scope, altering the arrangement of hashes, or changing reference origins, or adjusting spatial resolution.

· This site (h2h.run) has been created as a proof-of-concept and is not yet intended for commercial use.  However, it allows users to quickly and easily create and edit markers, draw freely on the map, freeze URLs, and share maps — all without requiring sign-up or login.  Sign-up and login features are currently being tested, and once introduced, new functionalities such as private and group maps will become available.

· The geocode system algorithm underlying this site's services has been completely overhauled from the version previously used on Hashedxh.com, which was developed by the same team behind this site (Hashedxh.com was closed to facilitate the algorithm overhaul, site improvements, and domain transition).  This site is the first to offer services based on the new algorithm, released on August 13, 2024.  Notably, the algorithm is also adaptable for use on planets other than Earth, with similar hash systems currently being developed for extraterrestrial entities such as the Moon, Mars, and Titan.

· To prevent confusion, the number 1 and the letter I, as well as the number 0 and the letter O, are treated as equivalent in the code, with the numbers automatically converted to their corresponding letters during processing.  Uppercase and lowercase letters are recognized as the same value;  however, the use of uppercase letters is recommended.

· Relevant patents are currently pending.

· The map service provider for the maps displayed on this site is Google Inc.  However, other features such as location-to-hash conversion, marker editing, drawing creation, and map saving or sharing are provided by this site's server.  

· Please note that Google Maps does not provide proper 2D maps for polar regions.  Additionally, if you see only a grey background on the map, it means there are no satellite images available at the current zoom level for that region (you might be viewing a location in the middle of the ocean).  In such cases, try zooming out to view the appropriate imagery.

· This site does not collect or store any personal information.  However, information on maps saved or shared by users without logging in may be publicly displayed on this site or accessible to users with the map's URL.
